"I believe the DC gun ban is Constitutional, and will not be overturned." --Barack Obama, 2007
"I agree with the Supreme Court decison that guns are an individual right." --Barack Obama, 2008
"This is less of a flip flop and more of an outright contradiction. Why? 70% of independent voters are pro-gun, and without them, Obama can't win. He added a quick "we still have a right to create gun laws" at the end of this statement, to appease the Left. But unlike nearly every other Senator, he did not file in support of the 2nd Amendment." --Kitty Pilgrim, CNN
Will the Supreme Court Decision Hinder new Dem Ban Plans?
First, the Dems are determined to CHANGE the Supreme Court! We all know that several members are hanging onto their retirement and health by a thread to wait for Obama and Congressional wins. The interesting thing is not the pro-Second amendment ruling, it is that although 8 of 9 members thought the DC case needed to be overturned, the vote was still a slim Kennedy-tilting 5 to 4. That justices still vote along political lines should prove once and for all that all the pontificating about the Constitution is puffery: these folks are community and ideology motivated.
What that means for gun rights is that our freedoms are in just as much peril if the Court changes composition as Obama has clearly stated. In addition, Obama has said: "I don't intend to take your guns away, I just intend to stop you from buying any more, or from carrying them." One pro gun New Jersey official who emailed us told us that enforcing Obama's proposed one gun a month ban with 85 million gun owners would be like "the police trying to enforce no cell phone talking while driving." We can't track 35 million illegal aliens, but we can track the daily purchasing habits of 85 million gun owners? At what cost to taxpayers? How hard will it be for the new DC libs to overturn this decision? Just look at the dissent. In caustic language, the Lib justices point out that citing case history in no way supports the original intent of the framers to protect militias, and that the individual right is clearly not a Constitutional right. WIth only one more sypathetic on the left, it will be bye-bye rights. Similarly, this only pertains to HOME ownership of HANDGUNS-- leaving the field wide open for Obama/ DC Libs to go after "assault" rifles (ie: collapsible stocks that mean nothing to crime), concealed carry, and many other past victories. The battle has truly just begun.
Keep supporting NRA-- they will be "fixated" on going after Chicago, New York (Bloomberg idiots) and LA with this win. Let us not forget, however, that "gun" is a terrible word to many City dwellers, and a loving, get together to hunt, shoot, protect and bond word to Country dwellers. These politics have truly become City vs. Country, and Obama, growing up in Hawaii and Chicago, hasn't a clue about country values and needs. "Carrying" a gun on a trail where you can encounter a lion or rattler is lumped into carrying in Cook Co. in his mind. Even if he was rational, his leftist supporters would never allow him to make that distinction! That this victory is in a City, is what is truly remarkable, even if it did take 34 years and a 5 to 4 margin!
Even Justice Scalia cautioned that it could take another 40 years of litigation for this decision to "trickle down." In that time, we're bound to have a very different Supreme Court and America-- in unimaginable ways.
